Nick C. Baldemor migrated to Guam in 1970 as a barber and wound up as a sculptor, perhaps the most celebrated one on the island. He comes from a family of artist from Paete, Laguna, with cousins Manuel and Fred Baldemor preceding him as highly acclaimed innovators in the visual arts.

Baldemor was comissioned by the late ArchbishopFelixberto Flores and the Insular Arts of Guam to carve Guam's official art gift to Pope John Paul II during a papal visit a few years ago. The art piece was a storyboard carved on native Chamorro ifil wood in a three dimensional style tells the story of how a Chamorro fisherman found the statue of Our Lady of Camarin riding the waves on the back of a crab. After the statue was taken from the sea, it was found housed in a Spanish barraks hence, "Camarin." The Pope was reported to have been impressed by it, describing it as "so beautful."

Baldemor won in 1981 the Guam Airport Authority Art Quest; he did the ifil mural of the "Legend of Two Lovers." In 1989, he won the Governor Arts Award Trophy design contest. His winning piece was made of solid brass on a harwood base, depicting an artist's palette with the symbol representing the various art disciplines surrouding the governor' seal. It has become recognized as a symbol of excellence in the arts.

In 1991, Baldemor was commissioned by the Guam Public Library, the Guam Council of Arts and Humanities Agency, the Mayor of Agana, and the Department of Administration to make a statue of Guam's late Governor Manuel F. L. Guerrero. Bigger than life-size and cast in bronze, it stands as centerpiece of a park named after the governor.

Baldemor and his wife, Elizabeth have three children.
