To those who studied at Maryknoll Fathers High School in Pakil, Laguna, a sad news on your beloved teacher - Sister Ann Williams.


Sister Mary Clare, Teacher in Philippines

Sister Mary Clare Henry, M.M., (commonly known as Sister Ann Williams while a missioner in the Philippines), died May 1, 2015 at the Maryknoll Sisterís Center in Ossining. She was 87.

She taught English and religion in Lipa from 1954 to 1956, Pakil. 1956-1965, Lucena, 1965-1968 and Cateel, 1968-1971. During her time in Pakil she also served as regional assistant superior, 1960, and superior, 1962. She taught religion and served as supervisor for a high school in Malabon, 1971-1972 when she returned to congregational service at the Maryknoll Sisters Center in Ossining.

She returned to the Philippines in 1976 serving in Malabon, Quezon City and San Isidro parish in Nuro Upi, Maguindanao. She came back to the Maryknoll Center in 1989, this time serving as an administrator and business coordinator for the Maryknoll Mission Institute. Following a period of ministering to the needs of her family, she returned to the Philippines for the final time in 1998 where she did pastoral work, volunteered with the National Vocational Rehabilitation Centerís literacy program and taught English to Asian Sisters. She retired in 2011 to the Maryknoll Sisters Center.

Born in Weehawken, NJ, she entered Maryknoll in 1950 and professed final vows in 1959. She earned a bachelorís degree on social science from Notre Dame College, Staten Island, and also studied at Newark Teacherís College.

A Funeral Mass was offered in the Chapel of the Annunciation at the Maryknoll Sisters Center May 6. Burial was in the sistersí cemetery.

May her soul rest in peace. Amen.

Sister Anne Williams was never my teacher at Maryknoll Fathers' High School, but I know that she was a well-loved teacher of her former students. May her soul rest in peace.
