My gist response is that what the article found faults with are all generally very true. Even in the context of religion, we as human beings are most prone to substitute in place of the true spirit of faith, hope, and love mere human attitudes and convictions. They might have started in good spirit and with the best intentions and zeal for implementation; but because of the human element, it would easily happen that the genuine faith element is discarded or skipped over for the casual natural or human ways of doing things. This could and does happen in any Church, be it an evangelical Church or a Catholic Church. Thus, repeatedly, those Christ condemned “pharisaichal” attitude and practices in religion for which the Lord has warned all his believers and followers are easily forgotten: one constant area where Christians are easy “backsliders” in varied and diverse ways and situations. Human regulations over the Lord’s regulations. And we are wont to forgive or excuse ourselves by saying, “Sapagkat tayo’y tao lamang.” Whereas this exudes some acceptable expression and confession of humility, which is always good as a wise re-beginning/”re-concialiating” re-tracking of our religious mindset and activity, nevertheless this tends to cheapen grace. True believing and true or faithful following genuinely and carefully seek the grace of the Holy Spirit in all our behaving and thinking specifically when involving religion. Never forgetful and never tiring to ask for grace, both individually and as a Church community when doing so. Each moment internallyconfessing our Christian baptismal fidelity and promises when doing so. Each moment thus prayerful and deliberately charitable in all our neighborly dealings even as we attend to religion; and precisely as we trust and obey God’s teachings and laws. And this is always possible, if sought after, for St. Paul reminds us that “the Lord’s grace is sufficient”......................................................... (I am ending this posting here as this topic is all so wide and far-reaching in implications and applications.)
