Last Saturday's meeting with our scholars was quite an
experience. It was a very nice feeling to see for the
first time the beneficiaries of our $20 club.
Unfamiliar faces, unfamiliar names and family names
all joined in that cramped room by one purpose. Their
green PE uniform dominated the UP [...otherwise known
as the Upper Palengke] as we all sweat to the max! I
have barely seated but the heat and my perspiration
was already melting and killing me.
pawis ko, how much more the teachers and the students
who stay there from 6AM - 6PM, 5 days a week?
I gave a very brief story on how we started this $20
club while the students listened intently.
pagiging $20 club scholars. It would all depend on the
yearly donations of the members, so if only 20 members
opted to renew their membership next year, then only
the top 20 scholars would be retained and 130 scholars
would be slashed from the list. The name of the game
is "Survival of the Fittest" kaya talagang kailangan
ay pagbutihin nila....para naman yatang napakalupit
ano?
taking courtesy of Nenett [salamat ulit Nenett….]
From the report of Mam Mel, meron doong separate list
of students who were given [or will be given] black
shoes instead of PE uniforms.
How can you resist the
very simple request for a pair of shoes of these poor
students? Mam Mel's report is not yet complete but
from the very small amount of $20 from each of us 159
members, we were able to send 150 scholars to school
and give them PE uniforms, buy 90 pcs of scientific
calculators, provide T-shirts for the teachers and
janitors and of course provide a few pairs of school
shoes for the selected students. May sobra pang pera
which will be used to pay for the salary of the
computer teacher who will be hired to teach the
PEQMNHS teachers during their spare time. There is
also a pending request to buy 10 AVRs [automatic
voltage regulator @ 450-550 pesos each] for the 10
computers donated by the Department of Energy.
The $20 we gave did not hurt our pockets but the
fruits it is now reaping give enormous blessing, joy
and hope to our scholars.
I hope we will see
again next year when you open your pockets for another
$20 for the school year 2007-2008. Dun sa mga nag
email na sa akin for next year's donation, maraming
salamat.
$20 Club 2006!
