Just in case nobody noticed because of the Election atmosphere, Imelda Cajipe-Endaya, our famous Paetenian artist, was featured in the Filipinas Magazine, May 2007 issue (pages 56-57). Entitled "In the Mix of Things" Rey E. de la Cruz, Ed.D., NBCT from Chicagoland described the works of Imelda.

The article traced Imelda's roots to her parents Dr. Pedro Cajipe and Felipa Baisas (pharmacist and bio-chem teacher), both from Paete, Laguna. Also mentioned was her maternal grandfather, Francisco Baisas, an entomologist who made a major contribution to malaria control in the Philippines.

Imelda explained - "Artistic genes are there even among the scientists in the family -- they also draw, write and play music. My sister Gloria (Cajipe) who is a bio-chemist, avidly promotes classic opera. My mother made papier-mache dolls when she was a kid." Imelda is considered the mixed-media icon of Philippine art. The expensiveness of materials led Imelda to do a lot of improvisations, and that's how she became good at mixing media.

Congratulations again to our kababayan, Imelda Cajipe-Endaya for her great contributions to art. If you recall, she had an exhibit at the UN last December 2006 as I have reported in Usap Paete. If you missed the posting before, you may want to revisit it at:
