A farewell tribute

By Arnie D. Quesada, ONT

It is in moments of death when love and affection become entwined with sadness and grief. It is in moments like this when memories rush forward, when emotions become deeper and when bitter pangs of regret are felt.

Loyd and I were deeply saddened about the death of our Kumadre, Laura. We extend to our Kumpadre, Bert and children our condolences in this irreparable loss of a loved one. This loss is even harder to bear when I look back in the early years of our lives when we were very close friends. This close relationship had its start when Laura was a newly graduated nurse at PGH. It was in this hospital that we had mostly our good times. We would be coming and going as a group or with just my Kumpadre even in the late hours of the night. We would be partying with her and her co-nurses. We would be group dating of double at nightspots, at eateries or as invited guests in an affair. We were young and merry then and we were living our lives our lives in youthful exuberance.

Time has drifted past and even in our advancing years, we kept in touch. We were lucky too in that both our families became North American immigrants at about the same time. Having known Laura for many years, I can say without equivocation that she was really an admirable lady. She was known too well as very charming, ever smiling, good-natured and mild-mannered. She was caring and patient not only to her patients but also to all those that touched her life. She was the epitome of an almost perfect wife and mother who was able to manage extremely well a hectic nursing career and a blissful family life. She will be remembered well. She will be missed so much. She had been a blessing to our lives. She will be forever enshrined in our memories. God bless her and may her soul rest in peace. Farewell, Kumadre. Goodbye, Laura!
